Resume' Homework

Hello Planners,

Please have typed up your first effort at your resume' according to the template/s provided on the link provided here: Resume'.

Points to remember:
  • Provide your Job Objective below your contact info. but before your skills/experience
  • Your Job Objective must be a job you could and would do TODAY. You are not trained to be an architect but you could work with architects as a receptionist for example.
  • The headings on your resume' ought to reflect the types of skills (groupings) and experiences you possess. Don't feel you  need to copy the headings from the examples provided.
  • The headings ought to be suited to the needs of your Job objective
  • Avoid sentences; rather list attributes/skills and use active verbs. For example:

Instead of : I have a positive attitude and I am willing to work hard to make the most of opportunities.”

On your resume’ write instead:
-   Postive, hardworking, quick learner, team player

Instead of: I am self assured and relate well to people. I enjoy speaking in public.

-    Self assured, sociable, skilled public speaker

Instead of : I was the manager of my basketball team.

- Managed a team of 16 players Jr. basket ball league.

  • You want the active verbs at the front of the line. These are your transferable skills
  • You want the most relevant information to be closest to the top.

TYPE AND PRINT YOUR FIRST DRAFT OF YOUR RESUME' TO BRING TO CLASS NEXT DAY! THERE WILL BE A HOMEWORK CHECK.

THANKS,
MS. S

Skills Inventory

Go to the following link:
Skills Inventory

  • Copy down the 7 types of skills and list those skills you have. Add any that they don't provide but that you have. Do not add skills you do not yet possess.
  • Your chart should include around 5 skills per skill type (unless you are particularly skilled or unskilled in a particular area) .
  • The idea is that you are starting to give yourself credit for the talents and skills you already possess and to figure out where you have room to grow.
  • This activity is designed to get you ready for more inquiry into work and education as well as resume' writing.

See me if you have any questions.
Due:Oct.16/17

Skills, Interests, Aptitudes

We have been exploring (meta cognitively) the nature of our values and we have looked at our multiple intelligences.

Today we have put our intelligence and our values to the test as we have grappled with difficult questions (both practically and in reference to values)

We finished up by distinguishing among our Skills, Interests, and Aptitudes as well as noting the relationships among them.

For next dayOct. 14/15:
  • Make a list of your key interests
  • Make a list of your key aptitudes
  • Make a list of your key skills
  • Help me to understand what the relationship is among these 3 areas and how you feel about them.
  • The assignment should consist of no fewer than 3 ideas per key area and a short paragraph explaining it all.
Day One! I am here tomorrow to answer questions you may have before the weekend.
Thanks everyone.

Values chart instructions and due dates

Hello Planners,

Today (day 1) we worked on identifying our values. Day 2 will do so on Monday. Thefollowing homework is ,
Due for Day 1 on Tuesday Oct. 7
Due for Day 2 on Wednesday Oct. 8

Do as follows please:
  • Create a chart with your top 5 values listed in order of importance
  • For each value list 2-3 specific examples of how you demonstrate that value in your life (actively) ex. I value 'Trustworthiness" so I keep my promise to practice piano for an hour.
  • Answer the following questions in informal sentences
    • How/why have you chosen these 5 values? Provide your thoughts on them.
    • Did you learn anything new in doing this activity?
Identifying what our values are can help us live more authentically and with a greater sense of clarity and purpose.
